Natural/All Natural: This is beef that contains no artificial ingredients or added colors and was processed in a manner that does not fundamentally alter the product. Based on this definition, pretty much all meat is “natural.”

Organic: In addition to no added hormones or antibiotics, these cows eat organic feed only.

Grass Fed: The cows eat some grass or hay at some point during their lives.

Grass Finished or 100% Grass Fed: The cows eat only grass or hay throughout their lives. They never live in a feedlot situation.

Raised Without Antibiotics/Hormones: The cows never received antibiotics or growth-promoting hormones. Unlike chickens and pigs, it is legal to give hormones to beef cattle.

Certified humane: This that from birth to slaughter, the cows were housed, fed, and cared for with high standards including providing adequate space to move freely, access to clean water and nutritious food, and minimizing stress during handling.
